Strolling down Cortland Ave today, I noticed a new sign up in the window at Hunan Chef with the following message:
Dear Customers,
We are retiring on Sunday, Dec 22 (our last day). We’ve enjoyed serving you for the last 23 years! Thank you for your support. Have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!
THANKS TO ALL
Sam & Susie

At this point I don’t have any additional info on the location or what’s next for Sam & Susie, but here’s wishing them well in their retirement!
Thanks for letting us know. I used to eat there all the time. I like the way you tell us about small neighborhood life in BH and changes like the loss of Hunan Chef. The other guy was heavy into real estate development and concentrated on things that those with money would like. BH has always been a mixture of races, languages and cultures, not just us old white guys.
Thanks! I’m still working through some new blog kinks, but really want to highlight as much as possible happening in the neighborhood. Don’t hesitate to email bernalhype@gmail.com if you have any story-worthy leads!
Aww, I’m sorry to hear this. I thought their food was surprisingly good for a place that didn’t appear to be super busy. I always hoped that they had enough of a take-out business to keep them going.
Oh, no. Like Juliana said, the food was surprisingly good and she (Susie, I guess) was very sweet. I’m sad I didn’t get to say goodbye.
