November Events at the Bernal Heights Branch
At the beginning of every month our wonderful local branch of the SF Public Library posts a calendar of all the events happening at the library. While I recommend you all sign up for their email updates, I’ll also be posting those events here and eventually adding them to the Bernal Hype calendar (coming soon).

Join us in a celebration of the cultural diversity and history of space and place in the Bay Area as local activist and artist Kanyon Sayers-Roods shares the Ohlone Land minizine.
Build a Finger Skateboard
Thurs. Nov. 14, 3-4 pm
Build and decorate your own finger skateboard. Then build a ramp for tricks.
For teens ages 12-18.
NaNoWriMo: Come Write In
Sun. Nov. 3, 10, 17 & 24,
1-4:30 pm
Work on your novelat the library along with other NaNoWriMo participants. Bring your own laptop or checkout one of ours with a library card. Snacks will be provided.
Corn Husk Dolls
Sat. Nov. 23, 2-3 pm
Wherever corn was grown as a crop, children in both Native American and Colonial American families used corn husks to make dolls. Learn about the history of these dolls throughout the Americas and create your own to take home.
Ramen Tasting
Tues. Nov. 19, 3-4 pm
Come make ramen (we will have a variety) and add your favorite mix-ins.

Learn the 5 S’s for staying safe online, including how to avoid common Internet scams, keep your connection safe with antivirus software, use private browsing and more. Presented by the Office of Digital Equity.

Working on a tough assignment? Question about what you learned today in school? Or just need a quiet space to get it done? Come to our Homework Club! Volunteer tutors will be on hand to help you with your work. For K-5th graders. Weekly on Tuesdays.
Corn Husk Dolls

Wherever corn was grown as a crop, children in both Native American and Colonial American families used corn husks to make dolls. Learn about the history of these dolls throughout the Americas and create your own to take home.
Rollicking rhymes, songs & books for infants and toddlers to 18 months. Meet and greet playtime follows the program. Limited to first 42 participants, in line, day of storytime.
Tickets for this storytime are handed out at the Children’s Room Entrance starting at 1pm.

The Great Teen Book Swap Tuesdays from 2:00-4:00 pm
FREE book! Just swap us a review. Here’s how it works: The Teen Librarian will bring out several books (new titles, old titles, and titles that have not been published yet) and allow teens the chance to browse through them for one that you’d like to keep. In exchange, you will swap us a review of the book by the end of the month. For ages 12-18.

Disaster Safety: the First 72 Hours
Saturday, November 9, 11:00 am-12:00 pm
The Seismic Safety Outreach team will provide San Francisco’s diverse populations with hands-on training and education on how residents, both young and old, can prepare for the first 72 hours following an earthquake or other disaster. Made possible by Self-Help for the Elderly (SHE), this program will be conducted in English, with Cantonese translation provided upon request.

Bernal Jazz Quintet
Wednesday, November 13, 6:30–8:30 pm (second Wednesday of every month)
The Bernal Jazz Quintet explores familiar standards and fresh new compositions, from bop to blues to ballads and more. An unusual front-line grouping of vibraphone (Jim Zimmerman), sax (Michael Gold), and trombone (Derek James) combines with a driving, creative rhythm section of drums (Curt Moore) and bass (Chuck Bennett).
Watercolor Community of San Francisco
Fridays, November 8 and 22, 1:00-5:00 pm (every other Friday)
Join local watercolor artists for an afternoon of painting, trading techniques and tips.
No instructor provided. Please bring your own materials and have some fun. Watercolor paints only. All levels of experience welcome. Due to space constraints this will be limited
